Well, if there's a good time for anyone who writes about sports to pick things back up, I'd say the World Cup is it. Every four years, the whole world comes together for a month to watch the beautiful game. Even if you're not typically a soccer fan, I can guarantee you'll get swept up in the World Cup if you just give it a chance. Even if your team didn't make it this time (and let's face it, a lot of the old standbys didn't: Italy, Netherlands, Chile, USA...), something about the energy of this event is still captivating. Granted, I'm a die-hard soccer fan and played the sport growing up, so this is extra special for me, but if you don't know the sport, head to a local bar or restaurant that's showing matches and I'm sure someone will be happy to explain to you, plus you'll get to experience the passion around the World Cup that makes it so different and wonderful.
This year's World Cup takes place in Russia, so if you're in Central Time like me, you can check out games each day at around 7:00am, 10:00am and 1:00pm. The first match just kicked off and features Russia vs. Saudi Arabia - not necessarily the best soccer quality out there, but still exciting, and the quality will pick up drastically with Spain vs. Portugal tomorrow!
Stay tuned for match recaps and World Cup thoughts!
