Yesterday the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute hosted its annual Met Gala (also known as the Met Ball). This event is basically the ultimate showcase of haute couture fashion in America. Each year, there's a theme that attendees are invited to follow. Designers partner with celebrities, actresses, models, etc. to create custom-made pieces that fit the theme. Anna Wintour took over as chairwoman of the gala in 1999 and particularly since then, it's really become a who's who of fashion.
This year's theme was "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." Anna Wintour, Taylor Swift, Idris Elba and Jonathan Ive (chief design officer of Apple) served as the hosts.
My absolute favorite this year was Claire Danes in her gorgeous L.E.D couture Zac Posen gown.
My close second to Claire Danes was Karlie Kloss in Brandon Maxwell. FYI, the mini-dress version of this look was literally chopped off by the designer, Brandon Maxwell, before the after-party. If that ain't fashion, I don't know what is.
Here are a few of my other favorites of the night:
And yes, there were others I loved: Blake Lively in Burberry (although I'm not sure she met the theme as well as she could have), Emma Watson in Calvin Klein (#sustainable), Kate Hudson in Nicolas Ghesquiere...let's be real...it's the Met Ball, it's all good! Pretty much every fashion new site is reporting on this, so take a look and let me know what your favorites are!
